A STUD, a DUD, a SLEEPER, and an NFC East Case Study
FOLLOW THE NFC EAST LEADER IN 2023
My prediction is that 1 highly coveted Quarterback from the NFC East will be a STUD, one will be a DUD, another potentially a SLEEPER, and lastly a “Case Study” in the District of Columbia.
Tomorrow I will participate in 3 ESPN league drafts. Here is my strategy when it comes to grabbing a QB from the NFC East in the later rounds. Also why I will not go after Jalen Hurts in the early rounds.
There is plenty of value in the later rounds of drafts at QB. Spending and early round pick in your daft on a QB like Pat Mahomes or Jalen Hurts I caution you to read this first. Measue the Kool-Aid.
After Hurts coming off 1–4 RDS in mock drafts, Prescott is coming off around 5–7 RDs in. With that being said Daniel Jones is potentially a SLEEPER at 11th on ESPN PPR boards. Sam Howell is my newest case study in the nations capital.
The real division STUD
Dak Prescott owns Daniel Jones just above him on ESPN boards at 10th. He has a 10–2 record Vs the G-Men. The last time Prescott lost to the GIANTS was under Eli Manning in 2016 at the helm. Under this new “Texas Coast Offense” however we just may see fireworks out the gate. Just think Will Grier (Dak) against the Raiders. Lastly, Jones has yet to beat Prescott head to head.
Slated on the NBC platform for the “All Eyes On Us” campaign this season the ODDS are high week one. And the NFL is banking on 2 of the biggest viewership market’s to tune in to run up the streams. If you drafted Daniel Jones as your QB1 bench him Vs the Cowboys week 1. See, it’s kinda how this Dan Quinn defense is built.
Can Brian Daboll get high G-Men to rise to the occasion against a newly retooled Quinn defense? That is a tall order to ask. Especially when you look at the arsenal of weapons Prescott has as the signal caller this season.
Prescott burned me in my money league last season with his 15 INTS and missed games with a thumb injury. I believe he beats the Draft Kings over-under sucker bet at 13.5 INTS with less than double digit INTs this season. He will continue to reign as the NFC premeir QB1 heading into this season with a 27–7 record agains the others.
When It HURTS to be a DUD
Jalen Hurts is good, but I’m not certain he is DAK good. Not only did the Eagles lose 7 starters and 2 coordinators this off season, but the current Vegas odds have the Eagles favored over all other 3 teams to return to Super Bowl 58, according to MGM. No pressure, right?
Ski Mask Howie and his “Bird Gang” fan base believe enough currently in their rookie draft class to replace all those wholes, and yet still have continuity. I’m not drinking the Kool Aid here. The Eagles fans are in for a rude awakening this season. Wasting your precious first round draft pick in your league is a REACH when it comes to HURTS. I don't belive he lives up to the hype. Regression is impending.
The Eagles open up WK 1 Vs the Patriots at Gillete Stadium. Bill Belichick is a very sound defensive mind. His record speaks for itselves. If I’m not mistaken Hurts has yet to see a Belichick led team. I’m not certain HC Nick Sirriani can get it done with the all that turnover WK 1 Vs the Patriots.
Furthermore, the attraction of draftinf HURTS in the early rounds because of his running game will bite you in the butt. I’m not certain the young QB HC combo has the leadership and experience to repeat what they did last year. All the running in the “City of Bortherly Love” won’t be enough.
ALL STREAMS MATTER IN THE NFC EAST
Did you know the NFC East is the most profitable division in the NFL? No wonder Jerry Jones’ latest valuation by Forbes has “America’s Team” over 9 Billion. In addition, the 13 Lombardi’s between them has them the most chipped division in the NFL currently.
The Eagles are slated for 5 prime time games this season. The Cowboys however stand tall at 6. The Commanders however initially were slated for Christmas Day Vs Philly, but upon further review they will now visit the New York Jets for the big holiday game.
The G-Man also have 5 prime time games. Which leads us to WK1 when the Cowboys visit them in New Jeresy. What is the common denominator with all of the prime time talk? Streams. All streams matter.
Even Chris Collinsworth’s recent comments count for that matter.
The Fanatsy Football Value In It All
I love my division and as Cowboys fan I tend to show them more love. It’s only natural. As I prepare to enter all 3 of my ESPN fantasy football drafts tomorrow the only QB I would target would be Dak Prescott. Only if the draft room presents the opportunity. More on that to come here.
Hurts will go off most draft boards quickly. So what do you do, then? Knee jerk and start placing QBs in your que and follow the trend? Or have some resilience and wait for more value in the later rounds? The best part about having a strategy is sticking to it.
Not only am I writing about this beforehand I will be sharing my draft results and feedback of my “Contrarian” ground strategy I shared and will be employing here this fantasy football season.
Im certain not many owners will be placing the “Case Study” of the nations capital in their strategy, but hey if that's you, more power to you. I hope you found some value in this article today. Be sure to follow me on Medium for more NFC East Matters this season.
