Affiliate Marketing Trotlines

When I was young my Grandfather Stanley would take me fishing at Lake Hominy in Oklahoma during the summers in the 1980s. This is where I learned about fishing jugs and trotlines. I was very fortunate between 2 Grandfathers to learn to fish in both fresh and saltwater.

Affiliate marketing for bloggers is a lot like trotline fishing at the lake. There is a process that must be followed for the best results in catching fish on this type of build. Each time we went out to check our lines in his boat I would get excited about the unknown. What will be on the hook when I pull it up to the side?

In case you are not familiar with trotline fishing below is an illustration to help you get a clearer picture. My Grandfather would use milk jugs instead of bleach bottle jugs. This was a very effective way to catch catfish.

When comparing this method to social media affiliate marketing imagine the single line with all the hooks attached to your Facebook timeline. Each hook represents an affiliate link to a Fanatics product I think you might be interested in.

Trotlines usually have 10 to 25 hooks that hang from short, regularly spaced lines called trots. Trotlines allow you to catch lots of catfish quickly. The heavy nylon cords, large hooks, and big swivels used to make each line can subdue even the fattest cats. Target transition areas — where a tributary flows into the main lake, for example, or a side channel rises onto shallow flats. Tie the trotline between snags or make anchor points. Then, after baiting the hooks, add a weight in the middle to pull the line near the bottom. Chunks of oily baitfish are ideal for big blues and channel cats, while flatheads prefer live bluegills and suckers. Work with a buddy. Both anglers should carefully grip the main line and pull their way along it, removing fish and rebaiting. Via OutDoorLife.

The BDG Product of the Day explained

If you follow Built Different Group on Facebook you may have seen one of my Fanatics affiliate links float past your timeline recently. Each day my goal is to share one Fanatics product I think Cowboys fans in general will be interested in learning more about on the timeline.

I will do this the entire NFL season. The strategy is to get as many hooks on the trotline (in the water) as possible. Only when it is time to check the lines I have an affiliate dashboard through Impact to take care of that.

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to…
