Why are the Cowboys and the money so good at home in AT&T Stadium?

“If we do give up (a home game), I want it to be (to play in) Mexico. I’ve got a lot of business in Brazil. I’m one of the largest automobile dealers there are in Brazil. But I’m not as interested in the Cowboys playing there as opposed to Mexico City.” ~Jerry Jones Via Jon Machota

Big Picture

One of the best things I learned during my 23 years in the Navy was the ability to see things from a global perspective. BIG PICTURE. Post-retirement while working for Comcast and meeting President Dave Watson in Philadelphia at their headquarters in 2018 the same rule applies to this game of streams.

A few years ago I bet the Cowboys would have flown across the pond. To play in front of our UK Cowboys fans entrenched there. Expansion is always on the NFL’s agenda. Jerry helps push that agenda, however, is reluctant to play overseas.

Is this why the Cowboys are so good at home and play like shit on the road? Could it be a coincidence or by design? The NFL recently shared news about the game expanding into Brazil next season. Jerry wanted none of it.

Why not expand the Cowboys brand and show everyone the “World’s Team” in Brazil? The money is too damn good at AT&T Stadium. Leading the league in attendance with a 93.5K fan average per home game via ESPN. Jerry’s recent remarks show you how to Heisman the media on that. At their own expense. Addressing the recent league expansion and deflecting, sort of.

Let’s examine the behavioral differences between the Cowboys’ Bipolar tendencies at home and on the road. It’s likely Jerry already understands this team's ability to play so differently at home or on the road.

Home Cook’n

With the launch of NFL+ where fans can stream football around the world on their phone so must their product in new markets like Brazil. The league was broken down into a global marketing footprint previously. Officially announced for each team with their Global Markets Program back in May.

Seat tickets are one revenue stream. When you throw in merchandise and concession sales you do the math with 93.5K fans at AT&T Stadium. That’s home cook’n at its finest. The money is too good at home for America’s Team to get global moving forward it appears. Unless….

You would think the Cowboys viewing audience potential would have sent them overseas more, right? The Cowboys have played in just one regular season game overseas. They took on the Jacksonville Jaguars in London in 2014. Even though the NFL’s expansion into international markets began more than two decades ago.

When your franchise is worth over 9 Billion the Cowboys collect a big bag each home game as a result. Is this why Jerry has kept America’s Team primarily in America? Well, Mexico would be his next best option since it's just down south on I-35.

Welcome To Miami

As we keep the main thing the main thing the Cowboys are headed to South Beach for WK16. Will the team from AT&T Stadium this season show up at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Sunday?

In an important matchup of teams that can’t beat teams above .500 on Christmas Eve. All eyes will be on us per usual. With the NFC East still at stake, and the Cowboys in the driver’s seat, it’s time to put the pedal to the medal. Then head back to Texas for some more home cook’n.

Imagine what the ratings would be like should the Cowboys punch their ticket to paradise next February? Only time will tell. WK16 kicks off the Holiday Weekend slate of games to determine the contenders from the pretenders. Ho Ho Ho!

Much like the NFL expanding their game I am here with you too every day on Medium expanding mine. New reader here? Be sure to follow for more content around America’s Team this month. ’Tis the season!
