My DEEP dive into the DPOY trenches this NFL season

When you have a future Father-Son vested interest you must strategically plan and execute like a Defensive Coordinator.

New Season New Strategy

It’s that time of year again. We are 8 days away from the Cowboys kicking off things in Cleveland. What a matchup week one we have. Two potential DPOY players in Garrett and Parsons. In addition, I will be in three trenches on and off the field this season.

We are 5 days away from the NFL kicking off things in Kansas City on Thursday Night. Followed by a first-ever game in Brazil on Friday with the Packers and the Eagles. Football is back and this is my favorite time of the year. I will be taking my talents to the defensive side of the ball this season.

RC from AK on the shot, Jared from Bellevue, WA, my son Bryant, Bryce, and I were all at the 2023 Cowboys Vs Seahawks pre-season game at Lumen Field just before kickoff.

Last season I was all over the place. This is my new season strategy in 2024. In addition, my son Bryce enters 9th grade at Graham Kapowsin High School home of the Eagles. God has a sense of humor. He plays both LT and DE. They compete for the state title every year in WA. His trajectory is set. God is good!

Between High and NFL football that puts me in 3 trenches total. The goal is the same. Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on February 9th, with, or without my Dallas Cowboys. Come on a fantastic voyage with me this season like Coolio when the Cowboys host the Saints for our home opener WK2.

The radio-friendly “Fantastic Voyage,” which sampled the 1981 song of the same name by Lakeside, would hit №3 on the Billboard singles chart and give the rapper his first crossover hit. F. Gary Gray, who would later go on to direct Friday, The Fate of the Furious and Straight Outta Compton, directed the music video for “Fantastic Voyage.”

New Sack City

TJ Watt in Pittsburgh led all defensive players in sacks last season with 19. Both Garrett & Parsons had 14 each. How did Myles get the DPOY crown anyway? That’s another story for another day. This season I will be tracking ALL 32 defenses as my assignment.

No, just because you lead the league in sacks should you win the DPOY. Watt had to swallow this pill last season. Not to mention the other 5 in between Garrett & Parsons, like a Max Crosby. My son Bryce loves Max. This should give us plenty to chat about in our rides back and forth to practice during the week this year.

Crosby played some of the best football of any defensive player this season and was, therefore, named a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, being a finalist along with T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.

Catch me while Boots On Ground in the Seattle trenches this season watching games at The Press Box. The BDG 2023 Gym Rat Of The Year Mike Rock will be in the house each week with me. We are plotting, and planning to make this spot the PNW Cowboys hub for the Emerald City.

Now that I have my assignment and class schedule for this season it’s time to execute like a defensive coordinator should in the film room. This is exciting as I get familiar with other DCs in the league this season like Jim Schwartz in Cleveland. A DAWG. Repeat for Garrett? Or does Zimmer have enough smoke of his own already with Podcast Parsons?

Mike Zimmer Vs Jim Schwartz in Clevaland on September 8, 2024. Which coordinator will produce the next NFL DPOY in 2024? Will Garrett repeat COOK or will Parsons discover a new formula? Stay tuned and follow me on Medium today to crack the NFL DPOY race this season.

Reading Matters

Did I say I was excited the NFL season is back? Only 8 more days. Today I will share this in the GYM with my Facebook Supporters LIVE. Our first game on the road this season will present many tests. For one, the eye test between Garrett & Parsons for me.

Saturdays will keep me busy this fall. Especially with Bryce and his Eagles on his high school football journey. This is practice for future NIL deals that may arrive in the next 4 years. It takes vision. Most importantly study the gridiron game defensively and share it with you this season.

Are you a new reader here? Be sure to follow me on Medium. If you want to keep up with me all season you will need a Subscription. I don’t get paid for that either. I have one too by the way. Reading is fundamental. This allows writers to earn compensation for their work here, thanks.

I’m happy with my assignment this season. I’m excited football is back. If you are too be sure to clap for this article below to let me know you are too! That helps me on Medium! Until then look out for my next installment on this DPOY campaign kicking off in Cleveland on September 8th. Right after I get out of the film room!
