Travis Kelce fantasy football owners feeling the WHAM

I guess I must have loved you because I said you were the perfect draft pick for me

When it’s fantasy football death until we part

The Super Bowl defending Champion Kansas City Chiefs caught a hangover loss at home on TNF thanks to Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell and company. Late into the second half while watching the game in the lab, WHAM! It hit me.

A few days ago I shared my hunch with you about drinking the first-round draft KOOL-AID on Travis Kelce. In all 3 of my ESPN leagues, I chose to draft with the CONTRARIAN track on replay. The NFL “Injury Opponent” is literally undefeated and it does not discriminate.

This week prior to the NFL opener Kelce suffered a knee injury (Bone bruise), unfortunately, while in practice. It sent shockwaves through fantasy owners' teams and the industry. Thousands of owners who spent their first-round precious draft pick on him are singing a new tune all of a sudden.

Can you hear the song now? “Somebody told me “Boy everything fantasy football owners want is everything they see.” The popular trends in MOCK DRAFTS this year spoke volumes to me. Those owners who went with the popular trend have to face the “Commitment” music this season.

WHAM 1984–85 Circa Our name originated from a need for “something that captured the essence of what set us apart — our energy and our friendship — and then it came to us: Wham!

How does WHAM relate to El Travedor?

WHAM was an English pop duo formed in England in 1981. I’m sure many NFL fans who grew up in the 1980s are familiar. During the game “Everything She Wants” begins playing on my laptop in the lab.

Travis Kelce has been the definition of fantasy football consistency until this injury. Hang in there, this is called commitment. This is why I chose to listen to the CONTRARIAN track initially.

Many owners came into this week's opener expecting fireworks. I know the feeling personally. I drafted Lions RB Gibbs and TE LaPorta. They combined for 16 points in one of my leagues. Both Mahomes and Amon-Ra finished with around 19 points. Leading all players in PPR leagues.

But if you took the underbet on the over-under at 53.5 last night with the Lions congratulations! The spread literally dropped from -6.5 to -4.5 the day after once the Kelce news broke. 41 combined points. Less the fireworks.

There is no timetable for “El Travedor’s” return, unfortunately. He was a game-time decision then scratched. I can hear the waiver wire notifications coming in on my leagues now. All the scrambling to not only replace him for the interim but also wonder what the rest of the season holds in value for his owners. “If my best isn’t good enough, then how can it be good enough for two?”
