Why every content creator needs to own their own “Masters”

The best free game ever imparted upon me was to own my masters because it's a copycat league.

Copycat League

One thing I have learned about social media when it comes to creating content it is a copycat league. A very small percentage of USERS create content for the masses. All others will copy or imitate your content. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. What are “Masters” when it comes to content?

Like in music when you record a track for an album the “Master” to that song belongs to the record label in most cases. A master recording is the original recording of a song. Owning your master's gives you the legal right to its reproduction.

Why would you create any type of art and give your creative control and power to an external entity in that process? This is why you hear many artists complain their label has too much creative control over their music.

As a writer owning your own “Masters” would be to own your artwork and content. The best free game ever imparted upon me was to own my masters because it’s a copycat league. Thankfully CANVA helped with that.
