KaVontae Turpin Dallas Cowboys Kickoff Returns Special Teams
“It was very important, going into the offseason, to make sure (Turpin) was given the opportunity to be an offensive football player, McCarthy said. “I didn’t want him to be a gadget guy. That’s what he was last year.”

A Return On Investment

KaVontae Trupin was the first MVP for the USFL in 2022 thanks to his ability to score on kickoff and punt returns. Last season he was more like a “Gadget Guy” and rarely used under OC Kellen Moore. HC Mike McCarthy was quoted as making sure he was given the opportunity to be an offensive football player this year.

Why does this matter? The Dallas Cowboys signed him because of his special teams skills, as a WR. During WK1 he scored a rushing touchdown against the Giants at Metlife Stadium. Those of you who drafted the Cowboys D/ST in your ESPN leagues are leaving meat on the bone. Mainly in part due to a recent NFL rule change when it comes to kick-off returns in the name of player safety.

His allure of returning kickoffs this season may never see a return on investment when it comes to your D/ST. Punt returns however could be a different story. But, come on, who is gonna punt to the first-ever USFL MVP? In August I shared 3 Cowboys to stash on your bench in fantasy football this season. Guess who made that list?
