Why you need to know the definition of PARITY in the NFL
Has this season been a little hard to predict from your couch?
FAIR EQUITY
This is the first season since 1999 when every team won at least 1 game and lost at least 1 game in the first 8 weeks of the season. Talk about PARITY. As a Cowboys fan, you often hear our articulate owner speak about PARITY in the NFL. What is the definition of PARITY anyway?
In the NFL, complete PARITY would be a state in which on any given game, any given team can win any given game. Any Given Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Black Friday, and finally Saturday. Are you not entertained?
Why is this important to know? Every NFL season is a marathon. Each week represents a 17-progression checkpoint. December is usually when we learn the difference between a contender and a pretender.
With only 3 games left in the regular season the NFC East landscape is changing yet again after the battle of birds in the Pacific Northwest resulted in 3 straight losses for the green ‘Bird Gang.” Dont you love this part of the marathon each December?
RATINGS MATTER
We are not going to sit here and act like ratings don't matter when it comes to the professional sports cash cow in America in the NFL. It just makes too much cents. Imagine what each NFL+ subscription brings in revenue now each season.
Ask New York Giants fans in the NFC East about PARITY when QB Tommy Devito entered the chat 4 weeks ago. Now with 2 chances to not only become the “Giant Grich” can PARITY strike again in the city of the “Tushy Pushy” on Christmas Day? Ho Ho Ho!
What about Denver Broncos fans when Miami scored 70 on them WK3? They beat the Chiefs WK8 at home and held Patrick Mahomes to zero touchdown passes and 2 interceptions. Even the Niners lost 3 in a row after beating the Boys down in Santa Clara.
We have seen more NFL games spread across every day of the week than ever. Are they competing with the NBA? Just wait to see what the ratings will be on Christmas Day when the Eagles host Tommy “Cutlets” at Lincoln Financial Field.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
Next February the state of Nevada will host Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in the city of Paradise. Kind of fitting. If only the Cowboys can get their shit together on the road this week.
The Niners, Eagles, and Cowboys in the NFC have punched their post-season tickets. The AFC’s Baltimore Ravens visit Levi’s Stadium on Christmas Day to play the NFC leading front-running Niners. I have to go with Chiefs over Raiders, the Ravens unwrapping the Niners, and Tommy “Cutlets” over Hurts in the “Giant Grinch” who stole Christmas.
Despite the PARITY this season it has been interesting nonetheless. Just when you think you can predict each week’s games like an expert from your couch think again. Maybe this is why Jerry Jones always refers to the word in the press. PARITY matters in the NFL.
