How Special Teams & Defense needs to match Dak Prescott’s Potential Offensive impact in 2024
The definition of BIG 3 complimentary football during election season.
THE DALLAS BIG 3
Last fall I shared my recipe on how America’s Team would go Scorched Earth Offense with Dak Prescott under center. After he threw 36 TD passes and over 4500 yards. Leading an offensive league-high 29.9 PPG and only throwing 9 INTs. He was in the NFL MVP discussion. He is only 1 player, and this is a team sport.
Want to know the scary part? This Texas Coast Offense finally initially began cooking after WK6. That’s just 1 Phase of the game though. What about the other 2 Phases like Defense and Special Teams? Think about an entire season playing complementary football. At even higher levels?
Micah Parsons led the NFL in total QB pressures (102) last season to go with 14 sacks ranking him 8th overall behind the league leader TJ Watt with 19. The Cowboys’ defense ranked 5th overall in opponent total yards despite almost allowing 300 YDS a game (299.7).
Stopping the run is still an issue. Not pressures. Imagine all the no-holding calls on Parsons too. Hopefully Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer on the sideline this season can create better in-game adjustments. Could that be the difference this potential post-season? Only time will tell.
Special Teams Kicker Brandon Aubrey was another Will McClay USFL diamond in the rough. He led the NFL with 36–38 makes and an astonishing 94.2 XP% (49–52). Could the former USFL MVP Kick returner KeVantae Turpin (WR4) finally enter the Special Teams chat too in 2024?
Per the NFL, the new kickoff format will still see the ball kicked from the kicking team’s 35-yard line, but every player on the kicking team other than the kicker will now line up with at least one foot on the returning team’s 40-yard line. Imagine some TurpinTime this season on Special Teams.
CANCEL CULTURE
For our team to have the best chance of winning this year’s football election next year in New Orleans, all three game phases must work together in unity. That is the definition of complementary football. It’s also election season this fall, too. Now I understand Jerry’s “ALL-IN” statement. He wasn't exactly politically correct.
Everyone left on a 1-year deal, take the next step in the playoffs this season, or your next step will be right out Dallas’ door. Minus one Dak Prescott. I project Dak and CeeDee will get paid before the 2nd week of Training Camp. I can hear the BRINKS truck backup alarm beeping now before the Cowboys Vs Rams at Sofi Stadium on August 11th. AKA “AT&T West.” Is that ALL IN?
When it comes to Cancel Culture our Cowboys’ fanbase needs to accept that both Dak & CeeDee will remain Cowboys for the long term. The misinformation on our team currently on social media is higher than I’ve seen before. There’s a reason why it’s called TV Programming, too. Cancel drinking the network’s Kool-Aid. We are not in a build-back better mode.
Once Dak & CeeDee get paid in Oxnard we can shift the media’s shiny object focus to another QB controversy in Dallas. Between Rush & Lance. The battle for QB2. Who will have the better campaign during camp and pre-season to become Dak’s VICE? Remember, Dak does not play during pre-season. We can’t forget these two thieves campaigning together this year.
Make Dallas Great Again
Once last season’s leader in TDs thrown (36) and the highest league octane offense at 29.9 PPG gets year number 2 underway with this Texas Coast Offense we could see this team take the next step. To repeat as NFCE division champions should be our initial primary goal. Let’s break the 20-year curse Cowboys. Protecting Prescott is always priority #1.
Getting on the campaign trail WK1 early on the ground in Cleveland will be the key to making the Cowboys great again this regular season. Lead by our BIG 3 executing through complementary football. We know Mike McCarthy is consistent for a 12–5 regular season bit. This team will surprise many fans currently drinking the “Rebuild” Kool-Aid. Las Vegas has the Cowboys winning 10.5 games currently.
Should Special Teams get a boost from Turpin with the new kickoff rule change, and the Defense stopping the run at the line of scrimmage this team will surprise many Cowboys fans this season. That’s the best part. The potential. Especially this second year with this Texas Coast Offense under Prescott.
Complimentary football within all 3 Phases should be this team’s overall mission. We are 77 days away from kicking off in Cleveland. Lead by Myles Garrett who tied Parsons with 14 sacks last season. Prescott was sacked 39 times last season. The 7th Most sacked QB in the NFL. Protecting the most polarizing professional sports position is more important now than ever.
TRAINING CAMPAIGN
We are 32 days away from the Cowboys kicking off in Oxnard, CA. After I travel to Alaska in June to connect my network with some cold Cowboys fans I travel back to California in July to attend my first Dallas Cowboys training camp. I’m Boot’s On The Ground on a content campaign myself.
Upon returning from California I will begin connecting Cowboys fans in the Pacific Northwest this season on Meetup August 11th. Now if we can connect all BIG3 Phases of America’s Team on the field in the name of complimentary football there is no opponent this election season we can’t defeat other than ourselves.
Are you a new reader here? I enjoy writing about America’s Team. It allows me to create content that can educate, inspire, and spark the brain of the next writer in our fan base to get on Medium with me this season. Let’s campaign on Medium together.
It will take all 3 Phases of this Cowboys team to play at a high level. If our defense and special teams can match the offensive potential output this season after last year’s we might be cooking with some sauce like in the 90’s, finally. All the pieces are there. What free agents?
